Abstract:  In this talk, I will discuss some recent developments in “spatial sound” with special attention to new approaches to audio playback in immersive environments.  How does spatial sound reconfigure the relationship between performer and audience?  What are the social possibilities of spatial sound and how does it relate to underground DJ culture in Tokyo, Boston and Berlin?
