We are pleased to present Screening & Talk: Ito Tari’s Where is the Fear?.

Ito Tari was a Japanese performance artist who created works on the theme of gender and sexuality and also came out as a lesbian in her performance Self-Portrait in 1996. She continued to work on performances dealing with political and social issues, such as military violence against women, and the fear of radiation exposure after the Fukushima nuclear disaster. She also worked as an activist, running the Women’s Art Network (WAN) and PA/FSPACE, creating spaces for people to interact.

After Ito’s death, Tarinokai has been organizing materials for archiving, including documentary videos, books, and ephemera (flyers and other materials).

This program includes a screening of a video recording of Ito’s performance Where is the Fear? and a talk session. Tarinokai and the artist FAQ? will be invited as guests to create an opportunity for multifaceted discussion on her work and the archives.
